Free shipping for its books – a first in Singapore and Malaysia

Shipping charges? What shipping charges? Starting from 13 Nov 2009, Acmamall.com declares NO shipping charges in Singapore and Malaysia for its books, regardless of amount.

“It is a daring move that we have decided to take, boldly going the way that other big e-Commerce companies have done,” declares Henry Tanaka, Books Product Manager, Acmamall.com.

It has been a long and drawn out discussion with Acmamall.com logistics partners, but Acmamall.com has convinced its partners to lower the shipping charges till year-end.

“We told our logistics partners that if they lower the shipping costs, we will absorb the cost and provide free shipping to our customers, there will definitely be an increase of orders,” explains Cindy Low, Chief Operation Officer, Acmamall.com.

Providing free shipping is a big request that customers want. Currently, Acmamall.com charges a S$5/RM8.50 shipping fee to Singapore and Malaysia customers, but waives the fee above S$80/RM200 spent on books.

Free shipping is commonplace in Acmamall.com. It already provides free shipping for its beauty and floral products.

“Shipping fees gives a negative perception to customers. They want to see the final price without any hidden charges. Now, when you buy a book in Singapore or Malaysia, the price you see is the final price, unless you have a discount code to further lower that price, but there is no longer any shipping charges to consider,” says Tanaka.

Acmamall.com will begin talks with its logistics partners in other countries to work on reducing its shipping charges in due course.

Visit www.acmamall.com to enjoy the free shipping.

What other benefits should customers consider when buying books in Malaysia? From our recent e-Survey on over 1000 customers, we derived the top four reasons:

1. Trustworthiness. A company with 9 years of experience, Acmamall.com is a pioneer and seasoned e-Commerce merchant with 110,000 orders to date.

Reading more with 700,000 new titles

One million books may seem a lot to the ordinary reader, but at Acmamall.com, our customers are voracious readers. “More books, more books!” is their cry.

Introducing another 700,000 new titles, under the service Special Source. “After months of discussions and integration, we have obtained another source of titles from the US. These 700,000 titles are less mainstream and are harder-to-obtain, but nevertheless a whole new range of books to satisfy the reading habits of our customers,” says Henry Tanaka, Product Manager (Books) at Acmamall.com.

Under this new arrangement, the 700,000 titles will be defined as “SpecialSource” in Acmamall.com, whereby it is considered a different product from the mainstream available titles defined as “Books”.

With these new titles on board, Tanaka feels he can satisfy the reading habits of customers for a good time before they come back asking for more again.

Acmamall.com launches Paypal in Malaysia webstore

Acmamall.com celebrates with all of Malaysia with the launch of Paypal in its Malaysia webstore.

“We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Paypal has painstakingly worked with Bank Negara to allow the Ringgit to be accepted by Paypal,” cheers Christopher Quek, CEO of Acmamall.com.

On 28 Oct 2009, Paypal has finally got its act together and allows Malaysian merchants to accept the Ringgit on their webstores, of which revenues collected can now be dispersed into a Malaysia bank account.

Until recently, Acmamall.com has been an established Paypal merchant since 2007, offering the convenience of Paypal in all its webstores except Malaysia. Acmamall.com accepts Paypal in USD, SGD, AUD, HKD and NZD. It was unable to offer the Ringgit due to limitations of Paypal, much to the dismay of many Malaysian customers.

Malaysia is one of Acmamall.com’s core markets, and offering Paypal to our Malaysian customers gives us more creditability and security for our payment options,” cites Kau Siwei, Chief Marketing Officer of Acmamall.com.

“Paypal is a safe and secure method for payment, and is recognized internationally. I do believe it will give customers a wider choice but we may not see a major flow over to Paypal as Acmamall.com has already six other payment options,” quips Lee Weiliang, Chief Technology Officer of Acmamall.com.

Acmamall.com receives 15% of payments via Paypal from its webstores. With the inclusion of the Ringgit for Paypal, Acmamall.com believes it will see a slight increase in the usage for Paypal. In Malaysia, Acmamall.com currently accepts payment via Maybankard.NET, Maybank2u.com Internet Banking, CIMB Clicks, American Express and Cheques.

Whether Paypal will be an impact to the Malaysia webstore, it remains to be seen. Nevertheless, Malaysia customers can now relish a new payment option before them.

Acmamall.com previously had a books pre-ordering service in 2002 but it was shelved quickly after due to errors of information given by its suppliers. Acmamall.com’s Advance Books service now relies on an automated feed from its suppliers which provides accurate information on the stock levels.

“We have received feedback from our customers that we should bring back pre-ordering of titles which are due for release. I believe the addition of these 30,000 titles available for pre-ordering will cause our customers to cheer. We also give a further incentive to use this service by offering a 30% discount on pre-released titles, compared to 18% discount on our available titles,” comments Henry Tanaka, Acmamall.com’s Product Manager (Books).

Revision to Brunei shipping charges

With effect from 01 November 2009, Acmamall.com will be revising its shipping charges for books to B$3.25 per book.

“It is unfortunate that a revision on shipping has happened. Our current logistics provider has stopped delivery to Brunei and we have to take on another courier service instead. We will continue to review the shipping costs where possible and pass on savings to our Brunei customers,” says Henry Tanaka, Acmamall.com’s Product Manager (Books). “We will like to thank our Brunei book customers for their continued support and seek their kind understanding.”
